The Process Support Employee (Operations Technician) is responsible for the effective operation, repair and changeovers of production equipment.Ìý The primary accountabilities of the role include safety compliance, daily production, quality and sanitization procedures, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team. The Operations Technician works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with others in the same production unit as well as other production units and support functions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates, monitors, and performs changeovers of automated and manual equipment throughout the production facility through computer terminals, control panels, tablets and/or by manual means.

  • Unloads ingredients and packaging materials.Ìý Interacts with auto-guided vehicles (AGV) and automated robots (AMRs) for putaway and staging of items for end use.ÌýÌýÌýÌý

  • Monitors quality sampling when taken by a cobot or robot.Ìý Where sampling is not automated, take samples manually and documents as required.Ìý Reacts appropriately to ensure Quality compliance of product.Ìý

  • Assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting, completes autonomous maintenance activities and performs simple repairs on production equipment.

  • Performs Sanitation activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement.

  • Works with other employees on continuous improvement projects and process design.

  • Understands and complies with Hill’s policies, Safety standards, Good ManufacturingÌý Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety.

  • Identifies, reports, and seeks resolution for issues around Food Safety, Quality, Safety, etc.

Position Overview:

Our paid summer internship program offers a unique chance to get hands-on experience applying analytical chemistry to improving pet health. You won’t be just an extra set of hands; you’ll be a key part of our team, working on aÌýsubstantial project with one-on-one mentorship from one of our experts.

This internship is designed to give you both practical lab skills and professional growth. You’ll gain direct exposure to senior leaders, and our program provides opportunities to network with other students who share your career interests. As an Analytical Lab Intern, you will focus on projects within an analytical team to leverage and implement automated processes and help improve the efficiency of current methods. This role is perfect for a student eager to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges in a fast-paced, innovative lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, calibrate, maintain and operate robotic instruments for the preparation of chemical solutions, ensuring accurate and reproducible results.

  • Optimize and execute GC-FID and GCMS methods for both liquid and gaseous (headspace) samples.

  • Process, analyze, and interpret GCFID and GC/MS data, including chromatogram review, peak identification, and method troubleshooting.

  • Apply calibration standards and quantitative analysis approaches to accurately determine concentrations of target analytes.

  • Perform method validation activities and utilize statistical methods to evaluate accuracy and reproducibility.

  • Maintain documentation of analytical procedures, instrument maintenance, and results in accordance with laboratory quality systems.

  • Collaborate with team members to support method development, validation, and continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications:

  • Junior or Senior students seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with computer programming is desirable.

  • Knowledge of GC/MS instruments for both liquid and headspace sampling. Hands-on experience in those instruments is preferred.

  • Familiarity with calibration techniques, quantification methods, and lab data systems.

  • Strong background in statistical methods and data analysis.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPAÌý

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $23.50 - $29.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year).
