The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will work to provide support in regulatory related product life-cycle review activities, preparation of regulatory and registry documentation and ensuring compliance with all regulations and statutes during the development, manufacture, and sale of Hill’s Pet Nutrition products. They will also gain general regulatory knowledge and experience that will serve to create an expanded understanding of how Regulatory Affairs supports the business and the regulations around pet food in general. This position supports regulatory related activities including, but not limited to: regulatory intelligence gathering, preparing international regulatory submission documents, creation of copy sheet segmentation, copy content input & review, claims tracker review for segmentation activities, labeling review & approval process for packaging, and product life-cycle activities inclusive of general formula compliance reviews in regards to packaging.Ìý

The Regulatory Affairs Specialist ensures Hill's Pet Nutrition products comply with all global and domestic regulations throughout the product life-cycle, from development through sale.Ìý This role requires a deep, applied understanding of regulatory frameworks and governance for pet food.Ìý Regulatory Specialists execute activities including regulatory intelligence, preparing international regulatory submissions, reviewing labeling and packaging proofs, contributing to copy content and claims substantiation, and executing comprehensive formula compliance checks.Ìý The Specialist will partner with cross-functional internal teams and liaise with external governmental agencies to efficiently facilitate global market access.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Ìý

  • Regulatory Lifecycle Ownership and Resolution: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), driving regulatory compliance and issue identification/resolution across a designated phase of the product life cycle. Continuously monitor and upgrade expertise on all relevant standards (e.g., USDA/APHIS, FDA, and AAFCO) to inform critical decisions. This role includes leading the preparation, review, and management of all required regulatory documentation, ensuring strict adherence throughout product development and manufacture. Analyze technical data, interpret results, recognize regulatory implications, and formulate subsequent action plans. To effectively troubleshoot and maintain compliance, the Specialist must maintain a comprehensive understanding of products, ingredients, suppliers, and manufacturing processes, escalating critical issues, identifying root causes, and proposing effective alternative solutions.

  • System Proficiency and Process Improvement: Apply conceptual knowledge of business processes, regulatory systems, and technology to troubleshoot issues and drive continuous process improvement. The Specialist will rapidly gain proficiency in and utilize relevant systems, including Product Data Management (PDM), ERP tools (e.g., SAP), document/project management platforms ( Veeva, AO Docs, Smartsheets, Beat, etc), and Business Intelligence (BI). This role requires a strong technical aptitude for working with complex data and learning new regulatory tracking and analytic tools.

  • Documentation, Training, and Project Management: Lead the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and Regulatory Points of View (POVs) to ensure standardization and compliance across regulatory processes. The Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining all regulatory files and electronic databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility. Manage small- to medium-scale regulatory projects and initiatives, and develop/conduct training for internal users on new regulatory processes, systems, or documentation requirements as needed.

  • Internal and External Relationship Building: Serve as the central regulatory point of contact, establishing and maintaining critical partnerships with cross-functional internal teams (e.g., R&D, Supply Chain, Legal, Marketing, Quality) and external governmental agencies and regulatory bodies (e.g., USDA, FDA) to resolve issues and facilitate global operations.

As an Analytical Lab Intern, you will focus on projects within an analytical team to leverage and implement automated processes and help improve the efficiency of current methods. Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, calibrate, maintain and operate robotic instruments for the preparation of chemical solutions, ensuring accurate and reproducible results.

  • Optimize and execute GC-FID and GCMS methods for both liquid and gaseous (headspace) samples.

  • Process, analyze, and interpret GCFID and GC/MS data, including chromatogram review, peak identification, and method troubleshooting.

  • Apply calibration standards and quantitative analysis approaches to accurately determine concentrations of target analytes.

  • Perform method validation activities and utilize statistical methods to evaluate accuracy and reproducibility.

  • Maintain documentation of analytical procedures, instrument maintenance, and results in accordance with laboratory quality systems.

  • Collaborate with team members to support method development, validation, and continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications:

  • Junior or Senior students seeking a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with computer programming is desirable.

  • Knowledge of GC/MS instruments for both liquid and headspace sampling. Hands-on experience in those instruments is preferred.

Core Responsibilities

    • Creating analytical/ML approaches to transform image, mobility, and other health-related observations into quantifiable metrics.

    • Designing programmatic strategies to identify and solve complex data analytic problems.

    • Writing, refining, and managing Python scripts for data analytics.

    • Working with individuals throughout R&D to identify key data sources, assess their quality, and devise strategies for their utilization.

    • Building pipelines for data manipulation, visualization, and descriptive/predictive modeling using current databases.

    • Designing data flows to extract data from organizational architecture and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) it into cloud-based systems.

    • Presenting your work to R&D partners and making actionable recommendations for implementation.

    • Building advanced data visualizations, including dashboards and custom JavaScript implementations.

    • Sharing knowledge with the immediate data science team through regular presentations on progress, challenges, and new advancements.

    • Assisting in training R&D scientists on basic Python and analytical skills.

    • Staying current on new developments in data science by attending conferences, webinars, and following relevant sources.

    • Developing, fine-tuning, and deploying deep learning models for complex generative tasks, with a focus on multimodal data.

    • Designing and implementing robust data pipelines for pre-training and instruction tuning of large-scale neural networks.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science with a minimum of 3 years of data analytics/programming experience, OR a PhD in a related discipline with a minimum of 1 year of data analytics/programming experience.

  • Experience with biological, health, or nutrition data is required.

  • Proficiency with statistical Computer Languages: Proficiency with Python, Julia, R, or Java.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An active GitHub account with examples of past work.

  • Active contribution to open-source data science projects, such as Kaggle competitions.

  • SQL Proficiency: Experience with SQL implementations such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or MongoDB.

  • Statistical Concepts: Strong understanding of statistical concepts, including descriptive analysis, experimental design, Bayesian statistics, sub-setting, and regression.

  • Statistical and Data Mining Techniques: Expertise in techniques such as generalized linear models/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, text mining, social network analysis, and dimensionality reduction algorithms.


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $113,000.00 - $127,000.00 USD
